This Mexico 100 Pesos 2013 bimetallic coin from the Numismatic Heritage series celebrates coinage of the First Mexican Empire, an important chapter following Mexico’s independence. The central design reproduces an early imperial coin featuring the right-facing portrait of Emperor Agustín de Iturbide, with finely modeled hair, military-style clothing, surrounding period legend and the historic date 1822. The silver-colored center is framed by a golden-colored ring inscribed “HERENCIA NUMISMATICA DE MEXICO,” accompanied by the Mo Mexico City mint mark, 2013 date, $100 denomination and a dotted border. The opposite side presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle with detailed spread wings grasping a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus, surrounded below by oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon and the legend “ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS.” Iturbide played a central role in the final phase of Mexican independence and became the country’s first emperor in 1822. Certified PCGS PL69, this high-grade bimetallic issue combines imperial history, national symbolism and modern Mexican numismatic artistry.
