This Mexico 100 Pesos 1991 KM-540 silver Proof coin belongs to the inaugural Ibero-American Series, “Encounter of Two Worlds,” created for the 500th anniversary of the 1492 voyage that connected Europe and the Americas. Struck in .925 silver with a limited mintage of 30,000, it presents an elaborate historical composition. The reverse features the Columnaria motif with two crowned Pillars of Hercules wrapped by PLUS and VLTRA banners, two overlapping globes showing the Americas and the Old World, and sailing ships crossing stylized ocean waves. The denomination $100, year 1991, Mexico City mint mark, dates 1492–1992 and “ENCUENTRO DE DOS MUNDOS” complete the design. The obverse centers Mexico’s national eagle with snake, cactus, oak and laurel branches, surrounded by the coats of arms and national emblems of participating Ibero-American countries and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. A distinctive Proof commemorative combining maritime history, heraldry, exploration and international numismatics.
