A new coin.
This 1991 Mexico 100 Pesos silver coin, KM-540, was issued for the Encuentro de Dos Mundos program, commemorating the historic encounter between Europe and the Americas. Certified PF69 by NGC, it presents a richly symbolic maritime composition. The main side features two crowned Columns of Hercules wrapped with PLUS and VLTRA banners, flanking overlapping globes showing the Americas and Europe, Africa and surrounding regions. Below, several sailing ships cross stylized ocean waves, recalling the transatlantic voyages of the Age of Exploration. The denomination $100, date 1991, Mexico City mint mark and commemorative dates 1492–1992 complete the scene. The opposite side centers Mexico’s national eagle holding a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus, framed by oak and laurel branches. Surrounding it is an exceptional ring of individual national coats of arms and emblems representing participating Ibero-American countries. The detailed Proof finish and NGC PF69 certification make this an attractive historical and maritime collectible.
