A new coin.
This 1978 Mexico 10 Pesos Republic coin is a striking mint error certified AU55 by PCGS and designated Broadstruck. Made of copper-nickel, the coin displays an irregular, expanded perimeter created when the piece was struck without proper containment by the collar. The portrait side features Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla facing left, rendered with a prominent forehead, strong facial profile and long flowing wavy hair, accompanied by the denomination 10 Pesos and date 1978. Hidalgo was a priest and leading figure of the Mexican independence movement whose 1810 call to revolt marked the beginning of the struggle against Spanish rule. The opposite side presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with layered feathers grasping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus. The composition is framed by the national legend and detailed oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon below. The broadstrike has produced a distinctly uneven outline and areas of expanded metal, making every feature of this PCGS-certified AU55 error especially collectible. An appealing choice for specialists in Mexican coinage, mint errors and historical world coins.
