This 1998 Mexico 10 Pesos coin, KM-616 and Schön-180a, is a striking bimetallic circulation issue combining Mexico’s ancient heritage with its national symbolism. Certified MS 63 by PCGS, it features a nickel-silver center surrounded by an aluminum-bronze ring. The reverse is dominated by the central section of the Aztec Sun Stone, depicting Tonatiuh with the distinctive fire mask, surrounded by intricate geometric panels, glyphs, circular ornaments and finely engraved pre-Columbian motifs. The golden-colored outer ring displays the $10 denomination, 1998 date, Mo mint mark of the Mexican Mint and DIEZ PESOS. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with spread, layered wings holding a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus, accompanied by cactus fruits, oak and laurel branches, ribbon and the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Issued by the historic Mexican Mint, this certified MS 63 example combines Aztec iconography, heraldry and an attractive two-tone design, making it an excellent addition to a collection of Mexican and world coinage.
