This 1998 Mexico 10 Pesos Atlantes Precolombina silver coin is a striking 5 oz issue devoted to the artistic legacy of the Toltec civilization and its monumental Atlantean figures at Tula. The main side depicts three richly detailed Atlantes: tall sculptural warrior columns with stylized faces, headdresses, geometric garments, chest ornaments and carved decorative patterns. The figures stand within a recessed field surrounded by repeating pre-Columbian glyph-like motifs, with the date 1998, Mexican Mint mark, ATLANTES and $10 denomination completing the design. The opposite side presents Mexico’s national coat of arms, showing an eagle with spread, intricately feathered wings grasping a serpent while standing on a prickly pear cactus. Oak and laurel branches, leaves, cactus fruits and a tied ribbon appear below, surrounded by ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. The outer border repeats the ancient-inspired ornament, while 5 ONZAS DE PLATA and LEY 0.999 identify the precious-metal issue. Natural toning visible across the surfaces gives this substantial silver coin distinctive character. An impressive choice for collectors of Mexican archaeology, Toltec culture and pre-Columbian art.
