A new coin.
This Mexico 1 Peso Republic coin of 1982 is a striking uncentered mint error featuring José María Morelos y Pavón and certified MS 63 by PCGS. Struck in copper-nickel at the Mexico City Mint, the dies contacted the planchet noticeably away from its intended center, producing a broad unstruck crescent along one side and shifting the complete design toward the opposite rim. The obverse portrays Morelos facing left in his characteristic headscarf, with detailed hair, facial profile, decorated collar, leaf ornaments and tassel; the Mo mint mark and date 1982 remain visible, while part of the 1 PESO legend is displaced. The reverse carries Mexico’s national coat of arms: a finely feathered eagle gripping a snake while perched on a flowering prickly pear cactus, framed below by oak and laurel branches and surrounded by ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Morelos was a principal leader of Mexico’s independence movement. The obvious minting error and PCGS MS63 certification give this unusual peso strong specialist appeal.
