Mexico 1 onza Libertad Type 1 PLATA PURA KM-494.1 UNC PCGS silver coin 1987

This Mexico 1 Onza Libertad silver coin, issued in 1987, is an early Type 1 KM-494.1 release struck in .999 fine silver by the Mexican Mint and presented in PCGS-certified UNC condition. The reverse features the original Winged Victory design: the Angel of Independence stands frontally with broad feathered wings, a laurel wreath raised overhead and flowing classical drapery. Behind her appear the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, while 1 onza, PLATA PURA, 1987 MEXICO, Mo mint mark and Ley .999 surround the scene. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms with a powerful eagle holding a snake in its beak and talon while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Detailed cactus pads and fruit, oak and laurel branches and ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS complete the heraldic composition. The regular 1987 issue had a mintage of 500,000 and KM-494.1 features the lettered edge INDEPENDENCIA Y LIBERTAD.
