Mexico 1 onza Libertad Type 1 PLATA PURA KM-494.1 MS 66 PCGS silver coin 1987

This Mexico 1 Onza Libertad silver coin, issued in 1987, is the classic early Type 1 KM-494.1 release, struck in .999 fine silver by the Mexican Mint and certified MS 66 by PCGS. The reverse portrays Winged Victory, the Angel of Independence, facing forward with richly feathered wings spread wide, a laurel wreath raised in her right hand and flowing drapery around her body. The volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl form the mountainous background, while 1 onza, PLATA PURA, 1987 MEXICO, Mo mint mark and Ley .999 identify the issue. The obverse displays Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle gripping a snake while standing on a prickly pear cactus, with oak and laurel branches below and ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above. Numista records a mintage of 500,000 for the regular 1987 issue. The early Libertad design and high PCGS grade make this an appealing certified Mexican silver collectible.
