The 2001 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad is a .999 fine silver bullion coin featuring the modern Libertad design and certified MS66 by PCGS. The reverse portrays Winged Victory, inspired by the Angel of Independence monument in Mexico City, standing on her architectural pedestal with dramatically extended feathered wings and flowing classical drapery. Behind her are the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, a detailed valley landscape, fields and small plants. The inscriptions include 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, 2001, LEY .999 and the Mo mint mark. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms at the center: an eagle gripping a snake while perched on a prickly pear cactus, above oak and laurel branches and surrounded by ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS. Ten historic versions of the Mexican eagle emblem encircle the central arms, showing changing eagle poses, wreaths and heraldic compositions from Mexico’s past. This MS66 certified Libertad combines fine silver, iconic national imagery and a richly detailed design, making it a desirable addition to Mexican and world bullion collections.
