This 2003 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM-639, is a .999 fine silver coin certified MS 66 by PCGS, combining precious metal collecting with Mexico’s celebrated imagery of liberty and national heritage. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing atop her monumental column with raised wings, an extended arm and flowing classical drapery. Behind her rise the distinctive Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes above a detailed valley landscape with fields and small plants. The inscriptions identify 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, 2003 and LEY .999 beside the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse centers on Mexico’s national coat of arms: an eagle grasping a serpent while perched on a fruiting prickly pear cactus, framed by oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon. Ten historic versions of the Mexican eagle emblem form a circle around the central arms, reflecting the evolution of Mexico’s national symbolism. An attractive PCGS-certified Libertad for collectors of Mexican silver and iconic world coinage.
