This Mexico 1 Onza Libertad silver coin, issued in 2003, is a classic KM-639 bullion release struck in .999 fine silver by the Mexican Mint. The reverse presents Winged Victory, the celebrated Angel of Independence, standing atop her monumental column with finely detailed feathered wings spread wide, a laurel wreath extended in her right hand and a broken chain held in her left. Behind the figure rise the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl above the detailed Valley of Mexico landscape, with vegetation and distant structures. The inscriptions include 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, 2003, the Mo mint mark and LEY .999. The obverse centers Mexico’s national coat of arms with an eagle gripping a snake while perched on a cactus, framed by oak and laurel branches, and surrounded by ten historic forms of the Mexican eagle emblem.
