This Mexico 1 Onza Libertad silver coin, issued in 2000, marks the first year of the KM-639 design and is struck in .999 fine silver as a bullion issue. The reverse features the iconic Winged Victory, the Angel of Independence, standing on her tall monument with wings spread, a laurel wreath extended in her right hand and a broken chain in her left. Behind her stretches the Valley of Mexico with the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, distant landscape, vegetation and buildings. The inscriptions identify 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, 2000, the Mo Mexican Mint mark and LEY .999. The obverse centers Mexico’s eagle-and-snake national coat of arms above cactus and oak-laurel branches, surrounded by ten historic versions of the Mexican eagle emblem.
