This 1999 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM-613, is a .999 fine silver coin certified MS 68 by PCGS, celebrating Mexico’s independence, landscape and national identity. The reverse centers on the Winged Victory, the celebrated Angel of Independence, standing on her monumental column with an extended arm, flowing drapery and dramatically spread feathered wings. Behind the figure appear the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, surrounded by rugged mountain ridges, a broad valley, fields and small plants. The design includes 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, the date 1999, LEY .999 and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse carries Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with layered feathers holding a serpent in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus. Detailed cactus pads and fruits are complemented by oak and laurel branches, leaves, berries and a tied ribbon beneath, with ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above. Combining the symbolism of freedom with iconic Mexican scenery and a high PCGS MS 68 grade, this Libertad is an appealing addition to a certified silver collection.
