This 1998 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM-613, is a .999 fine silver coin certified MS 68 by PCGS and devoted to Mexico’s enduring symbols of independence and national heritage. The reverse features the Winged Victory, known as the Angel of Independence, standing on her tall column with detailed feathered wings, flowing drapery and an extended arm. Behind the monument rise the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes above a broad Mexican valley with mountain ridges, fields, vegetation and small plants. The inscriptions identify 1 ONZA PLATA PURA, the 1998 date and LEY .999, accompanied by the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse displays the national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with spread wing holding a serpent in its beak and talon while standing on a prickly pear cactus. Cactus pads and fruits are surrounded by oak and laurel branches, leaves, berries and a tied ribbon, with ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above. The Winged Victory symbolizes Mexico’s independence and freedom, making the Libertad one of the country’s most recognizable silver issues. The excellent PCGS MS 68 grade adds strong collector appeal.
