This 1990 Mexico 1 Onza Libertad, KM#494.2, is a .999 fine silver bullion coin certified PCGS MS68, representing the classic early Libertad design and Mexico’s powerful symbols of liberty and national identity. The obverse depicts the Winged Victory, associated with the Angel of Independence, with expansive individually detailed feathered wings, flowing drapery, a laurel wreath raised overhead and broken chains held in her lowered hand. The mountainous landscape behind her features the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes. Visible inscriptions include 1 Onza, Plata Pura, Mexico, 1990 and Ley .999, together with the Mexican Mint mark. The reverse presents the national coat of arms with a majestic eagle, layered wings and long tail feathers, gripping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Numerous cactus pads and fruit, an oak branch, laurel branch, individual leaves, tied ribbon, national legend and geometric rim border complete the intricate composition. Certified PCGS MS68, this high-grade Libertad is a desirable addition to a Mexican silver or world bullion collection.
