This 2001 Mexico 1/4 Onza Libertad KM-611 is a .999 fine silver proof coin certified PR69 by PCGS, combining exceptional preservation with one of Mexico’s most celebrated national designs. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing on her monumental column with outstretched wings, flowing drapery and an extended arm. Behind her are the volcanic peaks Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, a detailed valley landscape, fields, vegetation and small distant structures. The inscriptions record 1/4 ONZA, PLATA PURA, 2001, LEY .999 and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse displays Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with layered feathers grasping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Cactus pads and fruits, rocks, oak and laurel branches, a tied ribbon, the national legend and patterned rim complete the design. The Winged Victory symbolizes Mexico’s independence and enduring ideals of freedom. The superb PCGS PR69 grade and brilliant proof surfaces make this Libertad especially appealing to collectors.
