This 2003 Mexico 1/20 Onza Libertad is a .999 fine silver coin certified MS67 by PCGS, combining a high Mint State grade with one of Mexico’s most recognizable numismatic designs. The reverse depicts the Winged Victory, or Angel of Independence, standing on her monument with outstretched feathered wings and flowing classical drapery. Behind her stretches a detailed Mexican landscape dominated by the Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl volcanoes. The surrounding elements include 1/20 ONZA, PLATA PURA, the 2003 date, LEY .999 and the Mexican Mint mark. The obverse presents Mexico’s national coat of arms: a powerful eagle with layered plumage grasping a serpent while perched on a prickly pear cactus. Cactus pads and fruits, oak and laurel branches tied with a ribbon, ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS and a patterned rim complete the design. Winged Victory represents liberty and the achievement of Mexican independence, giving this certified fractional Libertad both cultural significance and strong collector appeal.
