A new coin.
This 1988 Mexico 1/10 Onza silver Proof coin was issued for the 14th International Numismatic Convention in Mexico City and is certified PCGS PR69DCAM. Its design pays tribute to Mexico’s historic Spanish colonial coinage through imagery inspired by the famous Pillar Dollar. One side displays a crowned shield between two crowned columns, with the date 1732 and surrounding historic-style legend. The opposite side presents another crowned coat of arms with heraldic devices, accompanied by the modern inscriptions 1/10 ONZA, 1988 and PLATA PURA. Fine denticled borders frame both designs. The two pillars recall the Pillars of Hercules, a defining motif of the celebrated Spanish-American 8 reales coinage that circulated internationally and became an important ancestor of modern trade currencies. Struck in silver with deeply mirrored Proof fields and strong frosted relief, this convention issue is graded PR69DCAM by PCGS, making it a compelling collectible linking Mexican numismatic history, colonial coin design and the Mexico City convention.
