A new coin.
This 1971 Mauritius 1 Rupee copper-nickel coin is a superb Proof issue featuring Queen Elizabeth II and certified PCGS PR68 DCAM. The obverse displays the Queen’s elegant right-facing crowned portrait, framed by the royal legend and a finely denticled rim. Elizabeth II remained Queen of Mauritius after the country achieved independence in 1968, linking this issue to an important transitional period in Mauritian history. The reverse features the national coat of arms divided into four quarters: a sailing ship, three palm trees, a key and a star above a pointed triangular element. The shield is accompanied by the divided date 19–71 and four small decorative floral motifs, with MAURITIUS above and ONE RUPEE below. The detailed heraldry reflects the island’s maritime heritage and national symbolism. Struck in copper-nickel with a Deep Cameo Proof finish, this exceptionally preserved PCGS PR68 DCAM example offers crisp relief, reflective fields and strong collector appeal.
