This 1971 Mauritius 1 Rupee copper-nickel coin is an impressive Proof issue featuring Queen Elizabeth II, certified PCGS PR66 DCAM. The obverse presents the Queen’s right-facing crowned portrait, surrounded by the royal legend and a finely denticled border. Elizabeth II remained Queen of Mauritius after the island gained independence in 1968, making this issue part of the country’s early post-independence coinage. The reverse centers on the coat of arms of Mauritius, divided into four panels: a sailing ship, three palm trees, a key and a star above a triangular form, all recalling the island’s maritime heritage and national identity. The arms are flanked by the divided date 19–71, small decorative floral motifs, MAURITIUS above and ONE RUPEE below. Struck in copper-nickel with a Deep Cameo Proof finish, the coin displays sharply frosted devices against reflective fields. Its PCGS PR66 DCAM certification makes it especially attractive for collectors of Mauritius and Commonwealth coinage.
