The 1994 Marshall Islands 5 Dollars “Heroes of the Philippines” CuNi coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1944 Philippines campaign during World War II. The obverse presents a dramatic group of uniformed servicemen advancing forward, with General Douglas MacArthur represented among the central figures. Soldiers in caps and military uniforms appear in several rows against a tropical landscape, creating a powerful memorial composition devoted to those who served in the Philippines. MacArthur commanded Allied forces in the Southwest Pacific and became closely associated with the liberation of the Philippines. The reverse displays the Marshall Islands national seal with a central winged angel, radiant sun, traditional sailing canoe, ocean waves, palm trees and vegetation, traditional implements, woven ornament, geometric star motif and decorative chain border. Struck in copper-nickel and certified PCGS MS67, this 1994 issue combines military history, WWII remembrance and Pacific numismatics in an impressive high-grade collectible.
