The 1994 Marshall Islands 10 Dollars “Heroes of the Philippines” CuZn coin commemorates the 50th anniversary of the events of 1944 and honors the military figures associated with the Philippines campaign during World War II. The obverse presents a striking group of uniformed servicemen, led by a prominent central officer representing General Douglas MacArthur, with additional soldiers arranged behind and beside him. The composition evokes the return to the Philippines and the Allied campaign to liberate the islands. The reverse carries the detailed national seal of the Marshall Islands: a winged angel beneath a radiant sun, palm tree and vegetation, traditional sailing canoe, ocean waves, implements, woven ornament, geometric star motif and an encircling chain-like border. MacArthur was a senior U.S. commander in the Pacific and a central figure in the Philippines campaign. Struck in CuZn and certified PCGS MS68, this high-grade historical coin combines military history, portraiture and Pacific numismatics.
