The Maldives 20 Rufiyaa 1979 is an elegant silver Proof commemorative created for the International Year of the Child, a United Nations initiative focused on children’s welfare, rights and development worldwide. The obverse presents a lively childhood scene with three children: a girl skipping rope, a seated young child reaching upward, and a boy holding a ball. Above them appears the International Year of the Child emblem, a stylized adult-and-child figure surrounded by laurel branches. The reverse features the national emblem of the Maldives in fine detail: a coconut palm with spreading fronds, crescent and star, two crossed Maldivian flags on poles and a ribbon below. The dual date 1399–1979 completes the design. Brilliant mirrored fields and finely frosted relief give the children, rope, ball, palm leaves, flags and national symbols excellent definition. A charming silver collectible uniting childhood, humanitarian history and Maldivian national heritage.
