The 1980 Malaysia 50 Sen Republic Coinage is an impressive copper-nickel Proof issue, certified PF69 by NGC. Its architectural face depicts the Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur in crisp relief: the tall rectangular office tower is filled with orderly rows of windows and rises beside the lower parliamentary complex, with its distinctive angular roof structure, terraces and projecting sections. Above appears the crescent with a 13-pointed star, a prominent Malaysian national emblem, while a scalloped inner border frames the entire composition. The opposite side centers a large outlined numeral 50, accompanied by the country name, denomination and 1980 date. Delicate paired hibiscus floral ornaments with leaves and curling stems flank the value, referencing Malaysia’s national flower. Parliament House, opened in 1963, serves as the meeting place of Malaysia’s federal legislature and gives the design strong themes of architecture, government and national identity. The brilliant Proof surfaces, CuNi composition and near-perfect NGC PF69 certification make this 1980 issue an excellent choice for a high-grade Malaysian collection.
