A new coin.
Malaysia’s 1986 5 Ringgit commemorative silver coin was issued for the 35th Annual Conference of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), held in Malaysia from April 9–16, 1986. The conference-themed side is dominated by a charming stylized turtle mascot wearing sunglasses, with flipper-like arms and feet and a large oval shell bearing the PATA 86 Malaysia emblem. A circular field frames the mascot, while conference identification and the event dates complete the design. The opposite side features a large stylized 5 denomination combined with a currency symbol, surrounded by Bank Negara Malaysia identification. An elegant spray of hibiscus flowers, buds, stems and leaves curves along the lower field, adding a distinctly Malaysian botanical element. Struck in silver with a Proof finish and certified PCGS PR66, this attractive issue combines tourism history, conference memorabilia, national flora and an unusual turtle motif, making it a distinctive addition to Malaysian and world commemorative collections.
