A new coin.
The 1986 Malaysia 1 Ringgit commemorative coin marks the 35th Annual Conference of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), held in Malaysia from April 9–15, 1986. Struck in copper-nickel, this example is certified PCGS MS65. The conference side features the charming PATA ’86 mascot, a stylized turtle standing upright with flippers extended, a rounded shell carrying the PATA 86 emblem, and MALAYSIA below. The conference title curves around the upper border, while the event dates appear beneath the mascot. The opposite side presents the large stylized $1 denomination beneath BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA, complemented by a finely engraved arrangement of tropical flowers and leafy stems along the lower edge. The turtle imagery and floral ornament give the issue a memorable nature and tourism character, reflecting Malaysia’s role as host of an important Asia-Pacific travel industry gathering. A high-grade MS65 commemorative combining tourism, wildlife and Malaysian numismatic history.
