The 2010 Malawi 20 Kwacha “Salt Routes – Kolobrzeg–Wielkopolska” silver coin is a striking tribute to the historic trade networks that connected Baltic coastal centers with inland Poland. Graded PCGS PR69DCAM, this Proof issue displays brilliant fields and sharply defined relief. The reverse combines an intricate panorama of Kolobrzeg and Poznan: Baltic coastal scenery, dense historic architecture, towers, rooftops and monumental buildings appear alongside travelers with pack animals carrying goods, while a small contrasting circular insert enriches the composition. The obverse features the crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II against a stylized map, with Kolobrzeg and Wielkopolska marked across the route and a horse-drawn merchant wagon at center. Salt was a vital commodity for preservation and commerce, making these routes important arteries of medieval and later European trade. A fascinating combination of economic history, transport, cartography and architecture.
