A new coin, a capsule, a CoA.
The 2009 Malawi 20 Kwacha “The Salt Routes” proof silver coin explores the historic trade route linking Bochnia, Uscie Solne and Gdansk, where salt moved from the mining regions toward the Baltic. The richly detailed reverse presents an architectural panorama of Gdansk with historic gabled buildings, towers, waterfront structures and the Vistula River, while smaller figures, boats and a bridge-like wooden structure evoke transport and commerce. A distinctive golden-colored circular insert recalls a precious piece of salt. The obverse combines a crowned portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with a stylized route map marking Bochnia and Gdansk, plus a boatman steering a traditional river craft and a small salt-barrel motif. Salt was once a strategically important commodity, and routes along the Vistula played a major role in Polish commerce. Struck in silver with a Proof finish, this unusual issue combines geography, architecture, navigation and economic history in one highly collectible design.
