The 2010 Malawi 20 Kwacha Year of the Wealth Tiger is a colorful .999 silver coin from the Lunar Calendar series, combining the Chinese zodiac with traditional symbols of prosperity. Its reverse presents a vivid orange-and-black tiger resting beside two blue wealth vessels, one decorated with an intricate red endless-knot motif and tassel. The tiger is surrounded by abundant red and yellow flowers, green foliage and a bright green background. Above appear the Tiger character and Year of the Tiger theme, while a calendar panel lists 2010 and earlier Tiger years 1998, 1986, 1974, 1962 and 1950. The word “WEALTHY” and two golden ingot motifs reinforce the prosperity theme. The obverse displays Malawi’s national coat of arms with shield, lion and leopard supporters, crest, decorative mantling and Unity and Freedom motto, encircled by the Republic of Malawi name and MWK 20 denomination. Rich color, symbolic imagery and attractive silver finish make this unusual lunar issue especially appealing for zodiac and world coin collections.
