The 2014 Latvia 5 Euro “The White Book” silver coin is an imaginative literary commemorative dedicated to Jānis Jaunsudrabiņš and his celebrated autobiographical work “The White Book,” portraying childhood and rural Latvian life. The unusual square composition resembles an open book. One side depicts a book cover bearing the title and year 1914, beside a barefoot boy in checked trousers standing near a wooden fence and looking toward a radiant sun; the author’s facsimile signature completes the scene. The opposite side continues the book motif with a page dated 2014 covered by stylized footprints, while a tall tree, fence, rural house and landscape appear alongside; the denomination and Latvian state identification complete the design. Jaunsudrabiņš was a Latvian writer, painter and illustrator whose childhood stories became an enduring part of Latvian literature. Struck in silver with a Proof finish and certified NGC PF68, KM-160 combines literature, childhood memories, book art and inventive numismatic design in a distinctive collectible.
