A new coin, a capsule.
The Liberia 20 Dollars 2001 silver coin from the Legends of the Rails series honors the NR 610 “Princess Royal,” a classic steam locomotive represented with exceptional mechanical detail. The reverse shows the locomotive in profile with its tall smokestack, boiler, steam dome, cab, front assembly, coupling gear, connecting rod, enormous spoked driving wheel and smaller leading and trailing wheels. Three railwaymen stand on the footplate beside the cab, while rails, textured track bed, vegetation and leafy tree branches enrich the scene. No. 610 is visible on the locomotive itself. The Princess Royal design evokes the golden age of steam railways, when powerful express locomotives combined engineering performance with distinctive industrial elegance. The obverse carries Liberia’s coat of arms: a sailing ship on waves, palm tree, rising sun, plow, shovel and flying bird within a shield, surrounded by decorative ribbons, the national motto, divided 2001 date and segmented rim. Struck in silver, this railway collectible is ideal for enthusiasts of historic trains and transportation.
