The 2011 Liberia 5 Dollars “Flying Scotsman” silver coin celebrates one of Britain’s most famous steam locomotives and a landmark of railway history. Certified PCGS PR69DCAM, this Proof issue from the History of Railroads theme combines classic engineering with dramatic railway imagery. The reverse features a selectively colorized Flying Scotsman steam locomotive approaching along the tracks, its round smokebox, chimney, boiler, lamps and bright red buffer beam clearly visible. Passenger cars extend behind the engine, while dense clouds of smoke and steam billow overhead and around the wheels. Railway tracks and trackside ground complete the scene, framed by two stars and the railroad theme. The obverse displays Liberia’s coat of arms with a sailing ship, palm tree, rising sun, sea and plow within an ornate shield, accompanied by ribbon, foliage, the 2011 date and 5 Dollars denomination. Built in 1923 for the London and North Eastern Railway, Flying Scotsman became an enduring symbol of British express steam travel and engineering achievement. The silver composition, deep cameo finish, selective color and superb PCGS grade make this a desirable railway collectible.
