The silver commemorative coin of Liberia was issued in 2011 and is dedicated to the youngest of Christ’s Apostles. The legends tell that Apostle John was the most beloved by his teacher among the other ones. John is considered to be the author of some book of the New Testament, but Christian scholars argue about the exact texts. Apostle John is the only one of the devoted Christ’s Apostles, who died not as a martyr; he lived till the age of 106 and remained the last of people which saw Jesus in person. The obverse of the spectacular coin bears the state emblem of Liberia and the year of the issue. The coin’s denomination of 5 dollars and the name of the issuing country are placed here along the rim of the piece. The Apostle John’s gilded image is placed in the center of the reverse, framed by the circumference. There are relief scenes of John’s living struck around the central image and divided in a puzzle manner.
