In the distance, a monumental domed building with slender minarets evokes the historic route toward Constantinople, the celebrated eastern terminus of the original service. Launched in 1883, the Orient Express became synonymous with elegant long-distance European rail travel and inspired generations of travelers, writers and filmmakers. The obverse displays Liberia’s coat of arms with sailing ship, palm tree, rising sun, bird, sea and plow.
