The 2005 Lithuania 50 Litu silver Proof coin celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Lithuanian National Museum, an institution dedicated to preserving the country’s history, archaeology and cultural heritage. The reverse depicts a historic museum figure in traditional dress, wearing a cap and long belted coat, holding an old-style horn or trumpet to his shoulder; the surrounding legend identifies the National Museum and the anniversary “150.” The obverse presents an impressive composition of three historic coin and seal motifs. At the center is a medieval mounted knight with raised sword and shield, surrounded by an ancient circular legend; flanking it are additional heraldic pieces, including a shield with a double cross and a geometric emblem. “LIETUVA,” the 2005 date, 50 Litu denomination and mint mark complete the design. Catalogued as KM-144 and struck in silver with a Proof finish, this commemorative combines numismatics within numismatics, museum history, heraldry and medieval imagery, making it an attractive acquisition for collectors of Lithuanian heritage and cultural coins.
