The 2015 Lithuania 20 Euro silver coin honors Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis, known as Nicholas Radziwiłł “the Black,” a prominent 16th-century statesman and member of the influential Radziwiłł noble family. The portrait side presents an intricately engraved bearded nobleman in period dress, with richly decorated clothing and the legend identifying Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis; a detailed heraldic emblem appears beside him, while “500” marks the commemorative anniversary. The opposite side features a historic-style mounted knight within an ornate shield: the armored rider, horse, raised weapon and elaborate heraldic frame are surrounded by exceptionally detailed Renaissance-inspired scrolling ornament. Lithuania, the year 2015 and 20 Euro denomination complete the composition. Mikalojus Radvila Juodasis was an important political and diplomatic figure of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and a major patron of the Reformation and printing. Struck in silver with a Proof finish and listed as KM-214, this historical issue combines portraiture, heraldry and Renaissance art, making it an impressive Lithuanian collectible.
