The 2001 Liberia 20 Dollars GMAM-Garratt “Black Beauty” silver coin from the Legends of the Rails theme celebrates the imposing articulated steam locomotive and classic railway engineering. The reverse depicts the locomotive in a detailed side view, showing its elongated boiler, cab, chimney with a plume of smoke, articulated sections, numerous wheels, connecting rods, mechanical running gear and railway track. Long sweeping lines cross the background, while beneath the train a miniature landscape contains rocks, a leafy tree, smaller trees, shrubs and plants. Garratt locomotives were distinguished by their articulated construction, which combined considerable hauling power with flexibility for difficult railway routes.
