A new coin, a capsule.
The 1994 Liberia 10 Dollars “Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein” silver coin honors Bernard Law Montgomery, one of the best-known Allied commanders of World War II. The reverse presents a detailed bust of Montgomery in military uniform, tie and his characteristic beret with insignia, surrounded by his title and the dates 1887–1976. Montgomery rose to international prominence commanding the British Eighth Army and played a major role in the Allied victory at El Alamein in 1942; he later commanded Allied ground forces during the Normandy campaign. The obverse displays Liberia’s national coat of arms: a three-masted sailing ship on the sea, palm tree, rising sun, flying bird and plow within an ornate shield and ribbons. The 1994 date, 10 Dollars denomination, One Ounce and Fine Silver markings complete the design. Struck in silver with a brilliant Proof finish, this historical issue combines military portraiture, WWII history and world numismatics, making it an attractive collectible for enthusiasts of commanders and wartime commemoratives.
