A coin with some oxides, a capsule (please, check photos).
The 1997 Lithuania 50 Litu KM-104 silver Proof coin commemorates the 450th anniversary of the first printed Lithuanian book, Martynas Mažvydas’ Catechism, published in 1547 and a landmark in Lithuanian literary history. The reverse recreates the historic book’s ornate title page, with a rectangular text panel surrounded by richly detailed Renaissance-style floral scrollwork, leaves, blossoms and decorative motifs; the anniversary reference and Lithuanian book theme flank the central design. The obverse features Lithuania’s Vytis national emblem: an armored knight on horseback with raised sword, shield bearing the double cross, harness, stirrup and flowing tail. The country name, 50 Litu denomination, 1997 date and mint mark complete the design. Mažvydas’ Catechism introduced printed Lithuanian text and is regarded as a cornerstone of the country’s written culture. With its Proof finish, historical subject and elaborate book imagery, KM-104 is a compelling collectible for enthusiasts of literature, printing history and Lithuanian numismatics.
