Lithuania Declaration of Restoration Mindaugas SP 66 PCGS silver medal 1968

The 1968 Lithuania silver medal commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of the Restoration of Lithuania and links modern statehood with the legacy of King Mindaugas. Certified PCGS SP66, this historic medal presents a bold design rich in medieval symbolism. One side features an imposing portrait of Mindaugas in armor, wearing a tall royal helmet or crown and holding a long sword horizontally with a large armored glove. His bearded profile, chainmail details and heraldic element on the shoulder reinforce the medieval character, while the dates 1251–1263 recall his reign. The opposite side centers on Lithuania’s mounted Vytis: an armored knight with raised sword riding a horse and carrying a shield with the double cross. Surrounding inscriptions commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1918 Declaration and identify the Lithuanian Kingdom, with the dates 1918, 1968, 1251 and 1795 incorporated into the composition. Mindaugas, crowned King of Lithuania in 1253, represents the country’s early monarchy, while the 1918 declaration marked the restoration of an independent Lithuanian state. An evocative SP66-certified silver medal for collectors of Lithuanian history, royalty and heraldry.
