The 2013 Lithuania 100 Litu silver Proof coin commemorating the first map of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania is a spectacular square-format issue certified PCGS PR70DCAM, the perfect grade. One side features a finely engraved portrait of Prince Mikołaj Krzysztof Radziwiłł “the Orphan,” portrayed with beard, curled hair, elaborate ruff collar and richly decorated Renaissance clothing. Behind him spreads a detailed historic map filled with rivers, borders, place names and cartographic markings, while the denomination 100 appears within the map and a broad circular inscription surrounds the composition. The opposite side combines sections of the historic map, Latin text, geographic details, landscape imagery and a compass rose around the central Lithuanian Vytis shield, depicting the mounted knight with raised sword and double-cross shield. LIETUVA, 2013 and 100 LITU form the outer circular design. Radziwiłł sponsored the famous early-17th-century map that became a landmark in the cartography of the Grand Duchy. Struck in silver, this perfect PR70DCAM coin combines history, geography, heraldry and exceptional engraving.
