Lithuania 50 litu Painter Mikalojus Konstantinas Art proof silver coin 1995

The 1995 Lithuania 50 Litu silver Proof coin, KM#99, commemorates the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, one of Lithuania’s most influential artists and composers. Struck in .925 silver, this artistic issue unites portraiture, national symbolism and Čiurlionis’s visionary legacy. The portrait side presents a finely modeled bust of Čiurlionis, showing his swept hair, moustache, formal collar and expressive features, accompanied by his name and the dates 1875–1911. The opposite side features a large stylized winged figure or angel above a decorative band of stars, while the Lithuanian Vytis coat of arms with mounted knight, horse, sword and shield appears beside the date 1995; the denomination and country name complete the composition. Čiurlionis was both a pioneering symbolist painter and gifted composer whose dreamlike paintings often fused music, mythology and nature. Issued in Proof with a mintage of 6,514, this distinctive commemorative offers strong appeal to collectors of Lithuanian art, music and cultural history.
