Lithuania 50 litu 25 Years of the Vytautas Magnus University silver coin 2014

The 2014 Lithuania 50 Litu silver coin commemorates 25 years since the re-establishment of Vytautas Magnus University, one of Lithuania’s important centers of higher education. The university-themed side features an open book filled with finely engraved map imagery, symbolizing knowledge, learning and an international academic outlook. Across its pages appears “ARTES LIBERALES,” while eight-pointed stars surround the composition and the university name forms the outer legend. The national side presents the Vytis emblem: an armored mounted knight with raised sword, shield bearing the double cross, helmet, flowing plume, detailed horse, harness and saddle. Small stars accompany the central heraldic image, together with the country, year and 50 Litu denomination. Founded in Kaunas in 1922 and re-established in 1989, Vytautas Magnus University is known for its liberal-arts educational tradition. The brilliant silver surfaces and detailed symbolic design make this 2014 issue especially attractive for collectors of university, education, Lithuanian history and European commemorative coins.
