The 1980 Lesotho 500 Maloti KM-Pn19 is an impressive brass pattern coin combining national history, traditional symbolism and distinctive natural imagery. Certified PCGS SP65, it displays attractive brown, copper and golden toning that gives the surfaces remarkable character. The obverse features a detailed right-facing portrait of Moshoeshoe I, founder of the Basotho nation, wearing traditional headwear with a patterned band and feather, an earring, beard and neck ornament, framed by the country and ruler identification. The reverse presents two crocodile motifs with textured bodies and open jaws, an ear of corn with layered husks, and a traditional Basotho shield decorated with geometric elements. The national motto, 1980 date, 500 Maloti denomination and metal designation complete the composition. Moshoeshoe I united the Basotho people and established the political foundations of modern Lesotho. Listed as KM-Pn19 and preserved in PCGS SP65 condition, this unusual pattern issue offers strong appeal for collectors of African coinage, patterns, fauna and historic royal themes.
