The 2013 Latvia 1 Lats Richard Wagner KM-140 silver coin commemorates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner, one of the most influential composers in European musical history. Struck in .925 silver with a Proof finish and certified PF 69 by NGC, this collector issue has a limited mintage of only 5,000 pieces. The maritime obverse presents a dramatic sailing ship struggling through billowing, turbulent waves beneath a cloud-filled sky, accompanied by seabirds, the denomination 1 LATS and date 2013. The reverse features an expressive profile portrait of Wagner, his facsimile signature, musical symbols including a horn and stylized theatrical imagery, together with RIGA and the years 1837–1839. These dates recall Wagner’s important period in Riga, where he worked as a conductor and began developing his opera Rienzi. The sea voyage motif evokes the dramatic journey that later inspired elements of The Flying Dutchman. An exceptional combination of music, opera, maritime history and Latvian numismatics, this high-grade certified silver coin is a distinctive addition to a world collection.
