The Laos 5,000 Kip 1975 Savang Vatthana – Wat Phra Kio silver Proof coin combines royal portraiture with one of Vientiane’s celebrated historic monuments. One side presents Wat Phra Kio, also known as Haw Phra Kaew, rendered with an imposing multi-tiered roof, sweeping eaves, pointed finials, long colonnade, supporting pillars, stairways, balustrades and raised platform. The date 1975, National Bank reference, denomination and 925 silver mark accompany the architecture. The opposite side features a right-facing portrait of King Savang Vatthana in formal dress with an ornate collar. Beneath him is a symbolic ensemble centered on an elephant, surmounted by a radiant ceremonial emblem and flanked by stylized traditional forms. Savang Vatthana was the last king of Laos, reigning from 1959 until the monarchy ended in 1975. Wat Phra Kio is a major landmark of Vientiane and today functions as a museum. With its .925 silver composition, Proof finish and richly detailed cultural imagery, this issue offers an attractive link to Lao royalty, architecture and history.
