A new coin, a capsule.
The 2009 Laos 1000 Kip Kneeling Soldier silver Proof coin presents a striking military and historical theme through a richly detailed composition. The main side features a colorized kneeling terracotta warrior wearing traditional segmented armor, layered garments and a distinctive topknot, with one hand resting near the raised knee. Behind the figure rises an elaborate ancient architectural façade with massive columns, brickwork, decorative beams, carved brackets and roof details. The Terracotta Army emblem appears beside the structure, while the 2009 date completes the scene. The imagery recalls the famous Terracotta Army created to guard the mausoleum of China’s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, and discovered near Xi’an in 1974. The opposite side displays the national emblem of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic with stupa, road, fields, trees, rice ears, cogwheel and ribbon, together with the 1000 Kip denomination and beaded border. Struck in silver with mirrored Proof surfaces, this unusual colorized issue combines ancient history, military art and Asian cultural heritage.
