Laos 50 Kip 1985 is a commemorative silver coin marking the 10th Anniversary of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, established in 1975. The reverse highlights the celebrated Plain of Jars, presenting several massive ancient stone jars of different forms rising among grass, with a mountainous landscape and stylized sky in the background. Ornamental leaf motifs flank the large 50 denomination, while a beaded border frames the design. The opposite side features the state emblem used by Laos at the time: rice sheaves surrounding agricultural fields and a roadway leading into the landscape, a cogwheel below, and a star with hammer and sickle above; the anniversary dates 1975–1985 appear beneath. The mysterious stone jars of the Xiangkhouang Plateau form one of Laos’s most remarkable archaeological landscapes and give this KM-28 issue additional historical appeal. Struck in silver with a Proof Deep Cameo finish and certified PCGS PR68DCAM, it combines archaeology, national history and distinctive Southeast Asian imagery in an impressive collectible.
