The stunning collectible coin of Kazakhstan National Bank commemorates one of the historic national leaders Tomyris. The piece was issued as a part of the popular series dedicated to the great commanders. Tomyris was the warrior queen of the pastoral-nomadic people of the Central Asia. This person is mentioned by the ancient Greek authors, including Herodotus, as the ruler who defeated Cyrus the Great, king of Persia. The female commander Tomyris is depicted on the reverse of the coin standing among her warriors with the sword. There is her name scripted along the rim of the piece and the approximate time of her living (VI B.C.); the rate of silver and the weight of the coin are indicated beside them. The obverse contains the gilded Coat of Arms of Kazakhstan, the denomination and the year of issue. The relief image of the armed riders of Tomyris is minted here as well.
